Traditional Breton motif by Paul Yvain of a fish. Nature being of prime importance to the life in Brittany, it was not surprising to find animals as a significant theme. There was a series of pieces produced in the 1950s that are manganese on the outside and one of twelve colors on the inside. The manganese on the plate can range from black to yellow, blues and greens. Many of the pieces were one-of-a-kind, so once they were sold, that was it. It was a post-war renaissance of Breton artistic production! The plate is stamped Keraluc Prec Quimper and signed 'Yvain 54'. It measures 24cm diameter. In excellent condition. http://lovequimper.blogspot.com/2010/07/ceramics-of-keraluc.html One of Paul Yvain's plates was auctioned for 300 euros!
